The 2020 winner of the prestigious ACM Special Interest Group on Multimedia (SIGMM) award for Outstanding Technical Contributions to Multimedia Computing, Communications and Applications is Dr. John R. After 13 years in the role, Thomas Plagemann of the University of Oslo, Norway, has just stepped down as Editor-in-Chief of the Multimedia Systems Journal (Springer). Thomas has provided clear and strong leadership and guidance for the journal over more than a dozen years and overseen what is now a rapid turnaround between submission and publication, the introduction of best reviewer and associate editor awards and of course a back catalogue of great papers published across the years.

SIGMM has just received approval from the ACM Awards Committee, for a new award called the SIGMM Test of TIme Paper Award. This will be an annual award recognising the authors of a paper published either 10, 11 or 12 years previously at a SIGMM sponsored or co-sponsored conference, which has had the most impact and influence on the field of multimedia in terms of research, development, product, or ideas.
