The ACM Multimedia Asia (MM Asia) Steering Committee invites prospective parties to submit proposals to host and organize the sixth ACM Multimedia Asia conference in 2024.

"Enabling New Horizons for the Media Ecosystem"

In the ACM SIGMM Executive Committee meeting, on Oct 22, we had the bid for the future ACM Multimedia Conferences. The following has been decided:

• ACM MULTIMEDIA 23: Ottawa, General Chairs Abed El Saddik, Rita Cucchiara and Tao Mei
• ACM MULTIMEDIA 24: Melbourne, General Chairs Jianfei Cai, Mohan Kankanhalli, Balakrishnan Prabhakaran and Susanne Boll

The following Awards were assigned in the ACM TOMM Editorial Board Meeting on Oct 22 :

In 2020 SIGMM established the SIGMM Test-of-Time Paper award for a paper published 10, 11 or 12 years previously at a SIGMM-sponsored conference, including MM, MMSys, ICMR/CIVR, IH&MMSec, TVX, NOSSDAV, AVI or MIR.

The award recognizes the paper that has had the most impact and influence on the field of Multimedia in terms of research, development, product or ideas, during the intervening years, as selected by a 5-person selection committee.

The winner of the SIGMM Rising Star for 2021 is Dr. Jingkuan Song for his significant contributions in Multimedia Compact Representation and Analysis.

Dr Jingkuan Song is Professor with University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC). He obtained his PhD degree in 2014 from The University of Queensland, Australia. He joined University of Trento as a Research Fellow (2014-2016) and Columbia University as a Postdoc Research Scientist (2016-2017).

The 2021 winner of the prestigious ACM Special Interest Group on Multimedia (SIGMM) award for Outstanding Technical Contributions to Multimedia Computing, Communications and Applications is Professor Jiebo Luo. The award is given in recognition of his outstanding, pioneering and continued research contributions in the areas of multimedia content analysis and social media analytics, and for outstanding and continued service to the multimedia community.

The term of the current Editor-in-Chief (EiC) of the ACM Transactions on Multimedia Computing, Communications, and Applications (TOMM) is coming to an end, and the ACM Publications Board has set up a nominating committee to assist the Board in selecting the next EiC. ACM TOMM focuses on all aspects of multimedia computing, communication, and applications. The journal covers four major themes: engaging with multimedia, user experience, multimedia systems, and understanding multimedia content.

SIGMM is pleased to announce support for SIGMM members who are carers to attend online SIGMM-sponsored conferences and workshops, initially during 2021 only, and to allow them to engage more fully with the online event.

The ACM SIGMM (Special Interest Group in Multimedia) provides a forum for researchers, engineers, and practitioners in all aspects of multimedia computing, communication, storage, and applications. We do this through our sponsorship and organisation of conferences and workshops, supporting student travel to such events, discounted registrations, two regional chapters, recognition of excellence and achievement through an awards scheme and we inform the community of our activities through the SIGMM Records and through mailing lists.
