Originally set up to illuminate the state-of-the-art in image and video retrieval, ICMR aims at becoming the world reference event in this exciting field of research, where researchers and practitioners can exchange knowledge and ideas.</p>

Dr. Kokiopoulou receives the award for her thesis - Geometry-Aware Analysis of High-Dimensional Visual Information Sets ? that she has done at the Signal Processing Laboratory (LTS4), Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland. Dr. Kokiopoulou is currently a postdoctoral research associate at the Seminar for Applied Mathematics at ETH Zurich.</p>

Dr Jain is currently the Donald Bren Professor in Information and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Irvine. The ACM SIGMM Technical Achievement award, given in recognition of outstanding contributions over a researcher&rsquo;s career, cited Dr. Jain&rsquo;s &quot;pioneering research and inspiring leadership that transformed multimedia information processing to enhance the quality of life and visionary leadership of the multimedia community&quot;.</p>

ACM SIGMM is Sad to Announce the Loss of Nicolas Georganas, distinguished professor and researcher

Georganas, distinguished professor at the School of Information Technology and Engineering (SITE) and founding dean of the University of Ottawa&#39;s Faculty of Engineering.<br /> Nicolas was one of today&#39;s leading researchers in information technology, particularly multimedia systems. His work on performance design and analysis of computer-communication networks, dynamic/hybrid channel assignment in mobile cellular networks and multimedia communications has had a major impact on the field.</p>
