Women in SIGMM - Lunch invitation

Call for Artworks

ACM Multimedia 2014 will host the 11th edition of the Interactive Arts Programme.

We welcome original works and papers from practitioners and researchers developing innovative approaches in creating interactive multimedia technologies. We seek works that provoke contemplation, address contemporary issues, and interactively engage viewers in discovery and stimulate intellectual adventure. We welcome two categories of artwork: previously developed installations that rely on advanced multimedia or multimodal technologies, and original creations exploring new concepts and ideas. All artworks are expected to feature significant digital media components or multimodal interfaces. Selection for the exhibition will be based primarily on artistic merit and the potential to engage the conference audience. Digital arts installations will include mixed-reality art, game-based art, enhanced performances, sound-based installations, tangible interfaces, and those featuring mobile and social media.

Application procedure

Applications should include a 4-page description of the artistic brief as well as the technical elements of the installation, following the ACM Multimedia format for short papers (available here). Papers need not be anonymous and should be submitted via e-mail directly to the Art Exhibit Chairs. Supplementary material (audio, video, exhibitions leaflets and brochures) should be provided through a web link when available. Artworks that have not been previously on display are expected to be at an advanced stage of completion by the submission date. Enquiries or requests for clarification should be directed to the Interactive Art Exhibit Chairs.

Selection of artworks will be carried out by the Interactive Art Exhibit Chairs assisted by local organisers and members of the programme committee. Criteria for selection will include:

  • Originality of the artistic concept, aesthetic and/or critical quality
  • Interactivity and/or richness of the media content
  • Robustness and transportability of the installation
  • Relevance to ACM Multimedia in terms of content and technologies deployed
