ACM SIGMM is Sad to Announce the Loss of Nicolas Georganas, distinguished professor and researcher

We are saddened by the passing of Nicolas D. Georganas, distinguished professor at the School of Information Technology and Engineering (SITE) and founding dean of the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Engineering. Nicolas was one of today's leading researchers in information technology, particularly multimedia systems, and he won tremendous acclaim. We will thoroughly miss him. We have lost not only an exceptional scientist and colleague, but also a close friend who cared and helped selflessly so many of us.

SIGMM Award for Outstanding Technical Contributions to Multimedia Computing, Communications and Applications

The 2010 winner of the prestigious ACM Special Interest Group on Multimedia (SIGMM) award for Outstanding Technical Contributions to Multimedia Computing, Communications and Applications is Dr. Ramesh Jain. Dr Jain is currently the Donald Bren Professor in Information and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Irvine.

SIGMM Award for Outstanding PhD Thesis in Multimedia Computing, Communications and Applications

The 2010 winner of the ACM Special Interest Group on Multimedia (SIGMM) award for Outstanding PhD Thesis in Multimedia Computing, Communications and Applications is Effrosyni Kokiopoulou. Dr. Kokiopoulou is currently a postdoctoral research associate at the Seminar for Applied Mathematics at ETH Zurich.
