Getting to Toronto, Canada

Toronto is a major metropolitan city in North America, and can be easily accessible by air from most of the major cities around the world, many of them with non-stop flights. Most of the airlines operate from the Toronto Pearson International Airport (airport code YYZ). To reach Toronto from Halifax, Ottawa, Montreal, Chicago, Boston, and New York City, one can also choose Porter Airlines, which operates from the Toronto City Centre Airport (airport code YTZ). Via Rail operates daily train schedules from most cities in Ontario and Quebec, arriving in the Union Station in downtown Toronto.

Airport Shuttle

Airport Express operates frequent shuttle services between the Toronto Pearson International Airport and downtown Toronto. The one-way fare is $20 CAD, and the round-trip fare is $33 CAD.

Visa Requirements

You may or may not need a Temporary Resident Visa to visit Canada, depending on your citizenship. The site Visiting Canada offers an authoritative resource on policies regarding visitor's visas to visit Canada, and about obtaining a visitor's visa if it is required. Please contact ACM directly to obtain a visa support letter for purposes of visa applications. Details are available at this web page from ACM. It is advised that you plan travel well in advance.

Hotel Accommodations

The venue of NOSSDAV 2012 will be the Hart House, on the campus of the University of Toronto. University of Toronto is conveniently situated in downtown Toronto, and there are a wide variety of choices for hotel accommodations in the downtown Toronto area. Here are some hotels that are within walking distance.

More economic

Wellesley Manor Boutique Hotel: approximately $99 CAD per night for single occupancy, and $119 for double occupancy, 1.1km walking distance, approximately 13 minutes (map for walking directions)

89 Chestnut Residence (property of the University of Toronto): approximately $109 CAD per night, 1.7km walking distance, approximately 21 minutes (map for walking directions)

More upscale

The Sutton Place Hotel, Toronto: approximately $160 CAD per night, 0.7km walking distance, approximately 8 minutes (map for walking directions)

Holiday Inn, Toronto Bloor-Yorkville: approximately $180 CAD per night, 1.5km walking distance, approximately 17 minutes (map for walking directions)

Please note: As is typical in any market, prices are subject to change any time.

If you are prepared to take the TTC subway system in Toronto, the nearest subway station is the Museum station, which is only a 4-minute walk from the Hart House. This will open up the possibility of choosing among almost all of the hotels available in downtown Toronto. Feel free to contact the conference organizers for a recommendation.
