GETTING TO OXFORD
Oxford has excellent transport links and it is particularly easy to reach from Heathrow and Gatwick airports: the coach link is highly recommended. Note that there is very little parking in Oxford; if arriving by car it is best to use the park and ride. For further advice on travelling to Oxford, see this page.If Google maps is not to your taste, some useful local maps of Oxford can be found here. MAIN VENUE
The workshop will be held in Oxford University Computing Laboratory, (map). You need to find the entrance on Keble Road (not the apparently main entrance on Parks Road), number 7, marked "OERC" and "e-Science Building": conference signs will be posted. As well as the seminars themselves, coffee breaks and lunches will be provided in the same building. If you are staying at University College, it is a 10 minute brisk walk to the Computing Lab. If you are staying at Linton Lodge, it is a full 15 minutes (leave plenty of time), or catch any bus going south down the Banbury Road to just outside Keble Road. RECEPTION AND DINNER
The welcome reception will be held 19:00-20:30 on Sunday 21st September, in the Swire Seminar Room at University College. The main entrance to University College is on the High St in the centre of Oxford, exactly here -- it is a small gate in a very large door. The Swire Seminar Room is quite difficult to find, but come to the lodge at the main entrance and the college porter will give you directions. (In fact the entrance is here.) If you successfully navigate the quadrangles, archways, and door codes to get to the Swire Room, you will be rewarded with a glass of wine and canapes. The conference dinner is at 19:00 on Monday 22nd September, in the great hall of University College. The hall is immediately across the main quadrangle from the lodge. ACCOMMODATION
Oxford contains many hotels and guesthouses, and you may wish to obtain your own accommodation. It should be noted that this is a very expensive city and finding accommodation at the last minute is likely to be costly. There are two discounted options for conference attendees, for the nights of September 21-23:
Accommodation in Oxford is in great demand and both University College and Linton Lodge have very limited capacity. Rooms will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and we recommend that you book early to avoid disappointment. |
